Philosophy of education

There are several types of philosophical theories of education. The first is called the analytic philosophy of education and assumes that words matter. Much of the discussion on education is vague because of the lack of agreement among educators on core terms. Common agreement would make the discussion more productive and minimize confusion. However, to reach this shared understanding, philosophers of education must first identify the different types of educational terms. They must also evaluate these terms in light of the various issues related to education.

Nature is the source of all knowledge

The doctrine of “follow nature” in education is a key component of naturalism. It seeks to mold education to fit the child’s natural curiosity, thereby allowing the child to have complete freedom in learning. During the nineteenth century, the British public was especially fond of learning about nature, with males focusing on botanicals and females on animals. A rich knowledge of nature could be seen in English folklore, including the use of bird names.

Methods of instruction

There are many different methods of instruction that are used in education today. Differentiated instruction refers to a strategy that is tailored to the unique needs of a student or group. It may involve different levels of student participation, different methods of presenting content, and different classroom settings. Here are some of the main types of educational methods:

Scope of education

A scope and sequence statement is a description of a course or book’s content and its development across grades. It also explains the chronological order of how the course should be taught. Scope and sequence statements provide a framework for curriculum design and planning. They help educators and parents determine the right grade level for their child. The document also provides information on the content and academic goals of the course. It should also consider state, organizational, governmental, and global standards of education.

Process of education diagram

The Process of Education is the cultivation of knowledge, the wise and respectful cultivation of people. It consists of the guiding idea (eidos) or picture of what it is possible for humans to thrive. This notion provides the rationale to go beyond individuals and focus on the whole society. The idea of eidos is rooted in the writings of Aristotle, Rousseau, Pestalozzi, and Dewey. The basic elements of this concept are the guiding eidos, the disposition to act wisely, and the process of interaction and informed action.

Values oriented education

Various aspects of value oriented education are critical to the success of any educational system. Values based education should inculcate certain values in students and encourage them to apply them in all areas of their lives. It is essential to develop good citizens and achieve optimum growth and development. However, there are challenges involved in implementing values oriented education in schools. To overcome these challenges, the government must take the lead. This article looks at some of the obstacles that students may face while pursuing value education.
